2009 Holden Barina

There were a lot of crash test results in the Holden Barina which gave a lot of lot bad publicity to the car. Now however there is a new facelift with the addition of side airbags and structural fortifications, which made the car into a four star ANCAP safety rating. It is an improvement from the previous pre-facelift model that got only two stars. Whilst the side airbags are noticeable, and they enlarge to envelop the torso along with the legs, structural changes incorporated making the B-pillar out of superior power steel and normally strengthening the cabin structure of the car.

The earlier model of the Barina has Asian look rather than European (as it is built in Korea) the facelift has provided a more mature Euro appearance in the front and has a deep front bumper and a pair of fake air vents on each side just in front of the door mirrors.

The entire range of Barina models have 76kW 1.6 liter four pot engine that gives the car sufficient, than extraordinary performance, and the same can be understood for the handling.

Though the Barina has dissimilar suspensions tune from the majority of the 120 other markets. It still has a lot of body in the car which had me experience nausea feeling due to the swaying. Driving the car inside the town does not sway it that much

In respect to safety features the car has ABS brakes, and dual front airbags to balance the new side airbags. Alloy wheels are standard that is surprising due to the low cost of buying it.

It has been stated by Holden that the interior has been considerably improved, with a novel instrument panel, control panel and fabric trim, however the plastic is still unyielding and hard. In any case there’s a secondary input for your iPod or other MP3 player on the stereo head unit. It does not match fully integrated setup, but it’s a movement in the right direction.

There are six speakers in the face lifted car in place of standard two or four speakers. You also have the facility of stereo controls on the steering wheel for volume control and all the other normal stuff.

The front seats are relaxing and the driver’s one is adaptable six manners so you can acquire in a good pose behind the wheel. The dashboard and centre control panel though have been constructed from hard plastic are in fact pretty smart, with satin chrome colored accents.

The end word is that the Barina is a good model of ‘you get what you pay for’. Priced at NZ$19,990 you get a large amount of car for modest amount of money. The only thing to pity is that it is not much fun to drive it.
